What's up, Wayfinders, and welcome into Disney My Way, episode number two hundred and ten. My name is Lightning Lane Cut Chow, and on today's episode we are talking about underrated things at the Magic Kingdom. It's gonna be a great time, so let's go ahead and dive on in.

So today we are heading over to the Magic Kingdom. But we're not talking about the things that most people usually discuss when they're talking about the park. Like Cinderella's Castle, or Happily Ever After, or Pirates of the Caribbean, or Haunted Mansion, or Tron. No, today we're taking a look at something different. Things that are underrated about the Magic Kingdom. And look, these things that we're talking about today, they maybe aren't the biggest, most, you know, loudest attraction or thrilling experience. But they're things that can certainly add a lot to your Magic Kingdom day. Whether it's building atmosphere or allowing you to experience some of the legacy of the park itself, or even just immersing you more into the magic, the things that we're talking about today all have that opportunity to impact your day greatly while you're at my personal favorite theme park at Walt Disney World. And so I want to run through five things today that I truly do feel like are underrated. Things that people pass by seemingly every time they're in the Magic Kingdom. And I just think it would definitely be worth your time to stop in and do some of these things from time to time. And so we're going to start with number five on my list and work our way up. And at number five, I've got the Crystal Palace. Now, the reason why I put this on the list was honestly because I kind of forget about the Crystal Palace a lot of times. The Crystal Palace is a character dining meal, and the thing about it is it's kind of tucked away, almost out of the way. As you're heading down Main Street and you pass Casey's Corner, if you take a turn at Casey's and you head towards the entrance of Adventureland, seemingly tucked away in a little corner is this big glass building, and that's the Crystal Palace. And it's kind of like one of those things you probably walk past it all the time, and you probably go, huh, I wonder what's in there. Well, it's actually a pretty solid character meal. And look, is the food at the Crystal Palace, you know, food that is phenomenal? Uh it's not. But it's also not bad food by any stretch of the imagination. Look, Magic Kingdom, it's well documented at this point, but it's a food wasteland. It's a park that most of the time you're wondering where are you going to eat if you have to eat there, rather than, ooh, I'm looking forward to eating at X, Y, or Z. But the Crystal Palace offers you an opportunity to have some solid food. And not only that, meet some awesome character performers. And look, the character actors here at Crystal Palace have been phenomenal for a long, long time. I remember when I graduated high school 10 plus years ago now, my mom actually booked us a meal at the Crystal Palace because here you get to meet Winnie the Pooh, Eeyore, Tigger, Piglet, some of your favorite friends from the Hundred Acre Woods. And growing up, I loved Winnie the Pooh. I loved the movie. I just loved everything about it. And so, kind of as a nostalgia thing, my mom wanted us to eat there so I could see my some of my favorites and take pictures and all this stuff. And I just remember the characters being so, so good. They were so fun to interact with. They did a great job and never felt like you were being rushed through it and all that stuff. They did great. Well, then you fast forward like 10 years, and I'm going on a trip with our friends of the program, Caleb and Savannah, and they've got their kiddo. They go eat at the Crystal Palace, and you know what they were telling me about? Not the food, but the character experiences. Talking about how they loved getting to meet everybody, but that their son in particular loved getting to meet Tigger and how awesome Tigger was interacting with him. And so, even uh after like all of these years, the character performers at Crystal Palace really still do stand tall above a lot of other character interactions you can have at a lot of other places. I think they do a phenomenal job there. So I love the Crystal Palace from that aspect. Again, the food at breakfast I think is probably the best option. Lunch and dinner can be a little bit hit or miss at times. But breakfast is definitely probably the more preferred way to go, especially because I've heard they have churro waffles there at breakfast. I can't confirm I haven't been there for breakfast in a minute, but if that's true, I've heard those churro waffles can be really, really good if they have them. So breakfast is definitely probably the preferred option, but you are gonna get a really great character experience. And not only that, because of its location, kind of tucked away in that corner of Main Street, you're kind of getting this weird opportunity to slow down a little bit and actually kind of relax in one of the busiest theme parks, you know, around. And it's just weird because you feel like you're kind of in your own little area when you're in Crystal Palace, you know, like it's just a strange vibe, but it's also really nice in a way, too. Now, here's the thing about Crystal Palace and why I kind of left it at number five. I do think it's a great experience, but it isn't it is an experience that you are gonna have to pay for. You know, so if you go at breakfast, it's $54 per adult, $35 per child, and then lunch and dinner are $64 per adult and $44 per child. So look, I understand. You don't want to pay the money for a meal like that, that's totally fine. If you'd rather save your money and spend that on another souvenir or a meal somewhere else where you know the food's going to be significantly better, I 100% can get behind that. I understand that completely. Also, if you're kind of like me, and sometimes, you know, sit-down meals aren't always something you prioritize because that's an hour, hour and a half or so that you're having to dedicate to going to eat somewhere. I can get why you might want to skip that as well. Because a lot of times for me, I'm so go, go, go, go, go, it's hard for me to decide, okay, I'm going to eat here and basically force myself to slow down, like I said, for like an hour, maybe even an hour and a half, depending on how many people you've got and what kind of experience it is and all that stuff. I get it. I do. And look, dining at Disney is fun because you have things like this that are great. But if you'd rather, again, go just have a quick service meal, go on with your night, ride rides, all of that stuff, I totally get it. Because you've got to block out the time to do this. You can't just get in and out of this restaurant in 25 minutes and go hop on Tron. So that's why I put it at number five. I do think it's an experience worth going to. It's just one of those things of you do have to pay for the experience. It's not included with your theme park admission or anything like that. And you've also got to block out a significant portion of time in order to do it. So, with that being said, if you want to skip Crystal Palace, I totally understand. But just maybe from time to time, consider that as an option if you're going to be spending all day at Magic Kingdom as a place you might want to go eat at. Just because I do think it is still a little bit underrated, and especially in a park that doesn't have great food options overall, it could add something really nice to your day. But we'll move on now to number four, and number four is an experience that like honestly is one of the most interactive things, not just at Magic Kingdom, but as like one of the most interactive things at all of the Walt Disney World theme parks, in my opinion. And that's Enchanted Tales with Bell. So Enchanted Tales with Bell is another one of those weird locations where it's almost like kind of tucked away, and if you didn't know it was there, you would almost miss it. So as you're walking past like the carousel and you're going towards, I still call it New Fantasyland because I'm old, but as you're heading towards like where Mine Train is, and you're going towards that path that's going to lead you to where BR Guest is, and heading down further where Gaston's Tavern is, kind of off to the left, you're going to see like a little cottage, and that's where Enchanted Tells with Bell is. And this is an experience in itself because you get to go into Maurice's cottage, and you're looking at his workshop and all this stuff, and then they start to get into the story of what the attraction is. There's a mirror on the wall, and you know, Bell gave it to Maurice as a gift, so that way if he wants to come visit, you know, he can go and see them. Well, dude, like the transition with that mirror is still one of the coolest effects that still lands to this day. I I've probably seen how it works before, but I don't care. It still gets me every single time how cool that thing is. The mirror expands basically somehow and it turns into a doorway. And then you walk into the beast castle, where Lumiere is going to be telling you the tale of how Belle and the Beast fall in love. And then this is where the immersion truly starts to happen. So then the cast members start to help cast roles for the little play that they're going to put on. So you've got suits of armor, which is usually like a dad, or maybe your uncle or something gets cast as that because they just stand still the whole time. Then you've got somebody who plays the beast, somebody who will be, you know, plates and cups that'll dance around and stuff like that. So everybody gets a role. And even if you're not getting one of the main roles, you get to, you know, as an audience, obviously participate a little bit too, making sound effects and all that stuff. So after they get done assigning all the roles, then you go into the library and you sit down and you act out the story. And then the cool thing is, is at some point Belle walks in and starts to interact with everybody as well. And, you know, and then at the end in the room, if you were participating, you get to take a picture with Belle, and she's in her yellow dress, and it's awesome. But also, sometimes, if you're lucky enough, you can take a picture with Belle even if you're not participating in the play. I actually got to do that once. My youngest sister, she was little when we did this experience, and she got cast as the beast, had her little cape on, and got to actually dance with Belle, which was really cool. And then at the end, I kind of snuck up there and they let me take a picture with Belle. So that was really cool. But they don't do that all the time. So sometimes you get lucky, sometimes you don't. But, anyways, this is just one of those experiences, though, that I feel like is just so cool. Because it really is uh almost a very intimate experience in a lot of ways, because it's not like they're bringing in hundreds and hundreds of people. You're not sitting in a packed theater, you're sitting in this little room that looks like the library on these little benches, and you know, it can't hold a whole lot of people, so it really is like you're just having almost your own little private showing of this play that you're putting on, and you get to see Belle. And it's just a really neat experience, and it's something that I don't think gets talked about enough. I remember I did an episode with a travel agency came on here with me one time, and we played a game at Magic Kingdom about if we would wait for an attraction or if it would if we would skip it or whatever. And I was stunned when I brought up Enchanted Tales with Belle, and most of the people around the table were like, Yeah, I've never done that. I mean, I was absolutely stunned because I think this attraction is awesome. I really do. I think it is a fun experience that, especially if you have younger kids and they would enjoy kind of getting to participate in all this stuff. This is a really, really cool way just to spend a couple minutes. The show isn't long. I mean, you know, they're trying to get people through as much as they can, so it's not like you know, it's gonna take forever, but I think it's an experience that definitely needs to be done. And I don't think it's labeled as a must-do by most people going through the park. And I think especially since 2020, the popularity of this has died down a little bit. I remember before 2020, this was an experience that was like always kind of full. Like the line was pretty long a good bit of the time. And it feels like after COVID and some of the restrictions with all that, seems like it's just not been as popular. But I really do enjoy it. I don't go a lot as myself just because, you know, I do feel like it's more special to go with like families, and also it can just be kind of awkward sitting there by yourself on one of the little benches, you know, with families surrounding you. So it's not something that I go to by myself, you know, most of the time, but if you are going, I definitely think you should give this a try. Just because it is a lot of fun, and it is something that I think most people just kind of forget is there, and I think that's why it makes it underrated. But now we'll move on because I could talk the praises of Enchanted Tales with Belle all day. We'll move on to number three, which is Walt Disney's Enchanted Tiki Room. This is just pure Disney magic, it really is. And look, I know for a lot of you, you probably pass by the Enchanted Tiki Room and you go, oh, it's a show about a bunch of singing birds. How cool. Listen, if you understood truly the history behind this attraction, I think you would look at it in a whole new light. I really do. And look, I'll be the first to admit, I'm a theme park history nerd. Like when Disney Plus dropped, the Imagineering Story was one of the first things I watched. I loved it. When Disneyland handcrafted released not too long ago, I watched it almost immediately after it came out. I love Disney Park history. I think it's a lot of fun to dive into. Well, Enchanted Tiki Room was an attraction that actually started out as a dinner show. And they wanted it to be a restaurant, and they actually wanted live birds to be in there. Well, of course, because of health purposes, you couldn't have live birds in there. So then they kind of tweaked it up and said, Well, what if we could create like mechanical birds that kind of were in there? And then it just kind of continued to evolve. They dropped the dinner show portion of it and just made it a show with audio animatronic birds. And you can look this up and double check because I made sure I did before I got on here and said this. This is the first attraction at any Disney park to have audio animatronics. The audio animatronic birds in this experience are the first ever audio animatronics. Now, of course, the Disneyland version is the OG OG, but we get a copy of that here at Magic Kingdom in Florida. And I think it's really cool that they did carry this show over here because it is iconic for that reason almost in itself, but also because, again, this is just this is a show that was dreamed up and worked on by Walt and all these things. And I think it's just cool to have a little slice of that park history in this park. And I think that honestly holds so much weight. It's just also a lot of fun. I mean, you've got singing birds with tropical chaos going on and stuff like that. It really is just a lot of charm to this show. Again, it's not the most thrilling thing in the world, but it's charming. And you leave with a smile on your face. And look, let's be honest too, it's elite midday reset because you can go in there, sit down, in the air conditioning, and it's never really a long line. Like a lot of times, this line is not super long unless it is dramatically crowded. And I'm talking dramatically crowded. But most of the time you don't have to worry about finding a seat at the enchanted tiki room. You just don't. But I think if more people knew how significant this show was, I'm not saying it would grow in popularity, but I definitely think more people would appreciate it for what it was. So yeah, I definitely think the Enchanted Tiki Room deserves more, you know, value than what it's truly given by most Disney Park fans. Because I know a lot of times it's one of those things of if you see that the show's already getting started, then you decide to go in there and sit down and watch it. But most of the time, most people are just actively walking right past it to get to you know, Pirates of the Caribbean or to go somewhere else, or you know, right outside of the tiki room is the best thing ever. The tiki or sorry, the tiki, the tiki thing. It is the Dole Whip stand. So sometimes people are just walking past it to go get their Dole Whip for the day, and I don't blame them for that. But overall, I really do think that this is just one of those experiences that would add a lot to your Magic Kingdom Day, even if it is the silliest little bird show you're watching. I think it can. Add so much to it. And we're gonna move on now to number two, which is another show that I think is just truly charming in so many ways, and that's the Carousel of Progress. And look, this show I know it's a longer show, it's 20 minutes that you have to dedicate to it, and it's one of those that you can't really leave once it gets started because you go around in a circle. But I think that this show holds so much value to this park that I think most people don't even know about because I didn't know about it until just a couple maybe just even within the last year or two. And I mentioned it in our last episode with my friend Charles when we were talking about his first ever trip to Walt Disney World, where he chose to go on Carousel Progress rather than riding Tron. But Carousel of Progress, this is not like some version that they made for Walt Disney World. This was the show that was at the 1964 World's Fair. The show that they made there, which was the Carousel of Progress, is the show that's in Walt Disney World today. They flew it over from California and they put it into Tomorrowland. And the coolest part about that is that Walt Disney worked on that show personally. He helped with that show for the 1964 World's Fair, which means Carousel of Progress is the only attraction at Walt Disney World that Walt Disney, the man himself, had anything to do with. Because as we know, Walt Disney passed away years before Walt Disney World officially opened and he never got to see the Florida park. He never did. And so the fact that we have an attraction at Walt Disney World that Walt Disney worked on himself is just honestly the coolest thing. Because I think so many people, you know, tie a lot of the Disneyland magic to the fact that Walt walked through that park. Walt Walt had a lot to do with Disneyland. And it is truly magical to go out there and just to see it because you do really feel that while you're there. Like the man himself, you know, walked down this street and he threw trash in these trash cans and all this stuff, right? These little things. But the fact that there is a little, just a little piece of that in Florida, I think is what makes this truly a special attraction. And it's one that, you know, even going back to my very first trip at six years old, going with my grandparents, I remember this show vividly. The last scene, especially, I remember vividly. So this show has always meant a lot to me, but honestly, I think this is just an attraction that means way more to the Magic Kingdom as a whole than most people give it credit for. Again, it's one of those things that a lot of people walk right past. And kind of the the sad but also kind of exciting thing that exists with this attraction is that pretty soon here it is going to get a boost in its popularity because there's going to be a show scene at the beginning with a Walt Disney animatronic that kind of introduces you to the show and all that stuff. And look, I think that's great. I do. I thought it was so cool that Disneyland was getting a Walt Animatronic show. I think it's fitting that they're going to put a Walt animatronic in on this attraction. I think it's just going to tie everything together really well. But I know that a lot of people are now going to start going to this show solely because of that. They're going to want to go and see it and it's going to make the theaters super crowded and all that stuff. And look, am I going to be glad that the theaters are full rather than what they are a lot of times where it's like you could throw a rock and not hit somebody? Yes, I am going to be excited about that. But I just feel like a lot of people are going to go on it, not because of, again, the history that truly exists with it, but just for the fact that it's got a brand new, shiny, new show scene. But I do hope, and I do genuinely, you know, think that maybe this will start to open the door for people to appreciate this a little bit more. And that does make me excited. But Carousel Progress definitely is one of those things that I truly do believe is one of the most underrated parts of the Magic Kingdom. But the most underrated thing that's at Magic Kingdom is I think something that most people don't even think about. And that's Main Street USA. And I know you're probably sitting there going, well, Lane, how can Main Street USA be something that's underrated and something that we don't think about when it's literally the first thing we have to go down to get into the Magic Kingdom and the last thing we have to walk through as we leave? Well, it's exactly for that reason. How many times have you gone to the Magic Kingdom and you're not necessarily concerned about walking down Main Street, but rather you're thinking about, okay, we're gonna stop and get our Cinderella Castle picture, we're going to run and we're going to go get on Peter Pan's flight, or we're going to go ahead and wait for Tron or Jungle Cruise or whatever, or we got to go meet Mickey, and we then we got to go run and we got to go do this and that. How many times do you do that when you walk into that park? Or at the end of the day, how many times are you so concerned about getting out and either getting back to your car or getting on the monorail or getting onto your bus to go back to your resort and praying that a thousand people aren't there waiting when you get there, that you kind of don't even take a moment to let in everything that's happening on Main Street. I'll raise my hand and put myself in that number. I will. And man, especially in the morning, you know, this is something that, you know, is truly breathtaking in a lot of ways. Because you've got, of course, the you know, the music that's playing, this this these almost like these classical American songs in a way. Probably song tunes that you've known for a long time, but you just can't necessarily put your finger on what it's actually titled, but you but you recognize the song, and that you know it's playing and all this stuff as you're walking down. You've got the vehicles that will drive around for a little bit and they're honking and you know, riding around and stuff like that. You got the fire station, you got all this stuff, and then you've got the smells that are being pumped from the confectionery and all these different places. You've got the Dapper Dans who are usually out and about walking around singing in the morning. I mean, it's truly just from that aspect alone, super, super neat and super rich, and just it's I I don't know what to call it, like lore lore or aura or whatever you want to describe it as. But then not only that, you look at the top of the buildings and you've got the names of all these imagineers and all of these people that poured their heart and soul into creating this park, that put all of their creative efforts into making this park happen. And it really is just a super cool homage to just everything that this park stands for. And yet we walk right down it. So it was described to me once as something most people treat like a hallway when it's really like the opening scene of a movie. And I think that's a very accurate description of it. I mean, most people are just treating it as a way to get in and out of the park and nothing else. But man, especially like at night, when you're walking out, like next time you're there, I get it. Maybe you're trying to get back so the kids can go to bed, or you're just ready for your shower and to go to bed yourself, get off your feet for a little while. But slow down a little bit, especially at night as you're leaving. This is something I like to do from time to time. I will kind of go from a nice brisk pace to just a really slow, chill walk. And with the lights on, the music going, I just kind of take a moment just to take it all in and just let it be. Because it really is one of those times where it just feels like I don't know, you're just taking in something really special. And I would highly suggest you do that in the next time. When you're at the Disney Park, whether you're going in in the morning, or sorry, not just the Disney Park at Magic Kingdom, when you are going through Main Street, both walking in in the morning and leaving at night, take the time to smell the roses. I know it's a cliche, but but do it. Take the time to look up at the building, see the names that are written on there. Take in the lights, the sounds, the smells, everything. And just let it add something to your park day, whether it's the closing of it or the beginning of it. It's literally the first and last thing that you are going to see as a part of your Magic Kingdom day. So don't let it be wasted. Take full event take full advantage of it. Because if you skip Main Street, you are basically skipping forward past one of the best parts of this park. So but that's all of the things on my list. And I really do believe that while these things, again, are not the shiniest, they're not the fanciest, they're not the loudest things out there, they are the things that can really help to shape a magical day for you at the park. So as we hop on into some Disney news for this one, we're gonna pick up with a few things that I wasn't able to include on the last episode, starting with Disney has set a reopening date for the France Pavilion Film area over at Epcot. So this is the theater where you get to watch Impressions des France as well as the Beauty and the Beast sing along. That is going to be reopening on May the 10th. I don't think it was anything too dramatic. I don't think when you walk in there you're gonna see anything super different about it. But it was under refurbishment for like 10, or not 10, three months. So it will be nice to have it to have it back. Next up, show times have been revealed for Disney Jr. Mickey Mouse Clubhouse Live. Now, this is a show that will be featured at the new Walt Disney Animation Courtyard area of Hollywood Studios, and they will have shows starting at 10:15 and they will run all the way through 5.10 p.m. So if you are going to Hollywood Studios and it is May 26th or later, you'll be able to experience this show because it will start debuting on May 26th. Then again, show times will be from 10:15 through 5.10. And of course, they'll have some breaks, you know, between each show. So make sure to just pick up a park map or get on the My Disney Experience app to see exactly all of the times that are going to be featured with that show throughout the day. But again, that is an exciting addition, and we're moving ever closer to that courtyard area being reopened. And I am pumped about it because I think it's going to be a really big addition to the park. Next up, we got some Disney World Fall News. That's right. Disney has dropped some deets about some things happening in the fall of 2026. And so we've got the 2026 Epcot Food and Wine Festival dates out now. So food and wine this year will be from August 27th, all the way up till November 21st, which is awesome. This is always one of my favorite festivals to go to if I'm able to. And that just gives you ample opportunities to go to it throughout the fall. There will be some things that are returning this year to the festival, like street corn style dumplings, grilled brush bushberry, spiced shrimp skewers, and a tort. I'm not even going to try to pronounce the name over at the Alps, but some fan favorite things coming back. And of course, you'll have the Eat to the Beat concert series and all those good things. We just don't know who all is going to be going and when they're going to be going to. But obviously, as we get more updates on those, we will let you know about them. But we also got Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween party details. So Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween party, y'all, this is wild. It is going to be starting up on August 7th. That's right. The first not so scary Halloween party is going to be on August the 7th, and of course, it will run all the way to October 31st. And that, I mean, it's just wild. Now, of course, here's the thing when you're planning trips in the fall while the Halloween party's going on. There are going to, on those nights, Magic Kingdom will close early to regular park guests. Usually about 7 o'clock or so, they start kicking out the day guest. Maybe six. I can't remember exactly. But you'll have to leave the park and go somewhere else or do something else or go back home for the day. So if you're not doing a park opera pass, I would always suggest thinking about whether or not you really want to go to Magic Kingdom on a party day or not, because you could get a lot done, but you're also running the risk of maybe not getting in the full experience of the day when you have to leave. So just know that. Also know that there are a lot of dates in October. There are a lot of party dates in October. There's a good bit in September as well, but holy smokes, October, there's one almost like every other day, it seems like. So just keep that in mind as you're planning your fall trips to Walt Disney World that there are a lot of parties throughout September and October to have to deal with. Now, the ticket prices for this will be anywhere from $119 to $229 per night. And you can usually expect that higher end to be a lot of those October dates towards the end of the month as you get closer to Halloween and Halloween night itself. Now, these tickets will go on sale for resort guests starting on May the 5th, and they will be available to everybody else on May the 12th. These parties can go fast, especially the opening one, the closing one, and the ones kind of leading up to Halloween will go fast. So if you want to get your ticket, I would suggest getting on it as soon as you can, whether that's May 5th as a resort guest or May 12th as just a regular theme park attender for the party. So make sure that you are getting on top of your tickets now if you want to go. There will also be something cool that is happening that's new at the party this year, which is that Stitch will be hosting an ever-changing dance party over at the Rocket Tower Plaza stage in Tomorrowland. So that will be something to look forward to as well. But yes, all of the fun Halloween party details coming out this past week. Next up, an interesting piece of news that I saw for Disneyland. They currently are available at locations still, but basically, once the inventory is out, they will no longer be selling Magic Band Plus. Now at Disneyland, it's not quite used as much as it is at Walt Disney World. You don't see them as much out there from what I noticed as you obviously do at Walt Disney World. But honestly, this is something that I've heard a lot of rumors on that eventually it's going to die out everywhere. They haven't made as many new magic bands for either stateside park just because it's just not as big of a seller as it used to be. So while Disneyland is going to be kind of the first to do this, I'm just telling you, I wouldn't be shocked if we get news similar to this at Walt Disney World pretty soon as well. So interesting little tidbit there, but I thought it was thought it was interesting to share with everybody. And then finally, the construction is complete now for the Fairy Godmother meet and greet over at Magic Kingdom. This is in the Sir Mickey gift shop, kind of off to the side. And basically what I was able to find out about it, because I was like, how is that gonna work? It seems like that would be a really major traffic jam. So apparently, this fairy godmother meet and greet is for those that are doing the bibbity bobbity boutique. So this is where the girls get to go get dressed up as their favorite princess and get the full makeover and stuff. And so basically, upon leaving that experience, from time to time you will be able to take a picture with the fairy godmother during certain points of the day. And so that's what that's going to be for. It's not just an open to the public meet and greet for the fairy godmother. So, at least from what I've been reading. So, with that being said, it does kind of stink because it would be cool to meet the fairy godmother on a regular basis. But just know if you go in there to Sir Mickey's and you see some new weird-looking walls up, it's for that meet and greet for the fairy godmother. But that's all of the news that we have.
